Happy 2021!
January first was a dud for me. It seemed promising at midnight. J and I stood out on the front porch and lit some sparklers while listening to the fireworks. Once the noise settled, we called it a night.
I woke up expecting to have a relaxing day off and do a light cleaning session. Gabriel was hanging out in the bed with me, and he peed all over the sheets. In my haste and frustration, I managed to wrap my phone in the linen when I threw everything in the washing machine. I didn't realize it until a few minutes into the wash cycle, and by then it was too late. My phone had cracked in multiple places, so the water damage was done. I spent the next few hours figuring out where and how to get a new phone as quickly (and affordably) as possible, but I ultimately ended up handing all my money over at the Apple store. I tried to reframe my thinking by reminding myself that I get to upgrade my phone. It's a privilege. But I am still annoyed. Even as I type this, I'm missing my iPhone 8 Plus. I was prepared to keep it for at least another year or so. Not a fun start to the new year.
In other news, Raven is still wearing her cone of shame. I took it off for a bit to see if she'd leave her paw alone (it's a hot spot for her every winter), but nope. She started licking again. So she gets to wear the cone until all the hair on her paw grows back in.
We took the tree down a couple days after Christmas, and I miss the evening mood under the cozy Christmas lights - especially since the sun sets so early. On the other hand, it was nice to clear out all those fur needles. They get tracked all through the house.
Also, I can't remember if I mentioned it here or not, but I bought The Sims 4 on Black Friday, and I am living my gaming dreams lately (sometimes into the wee hours of the morning!). The wife is currently pregnant, and she's constantly abandoning whatever task I assign to go get something to eat from the kitchen. Yesterday she started a fire in the middle of the night. The husband woke up to extinguish it, and she just went back to the refrigerator to make something else to eat. The kicker? I checked her needs, and her hunger bar was full. She wasn't even hungry! As a pregnant woman, I feel attacked.
Okay, that's all I've got today.
Happy New Year, Disa! I'm sorry about your phone :( it's unfortunate, but here's hoping that your new one will be with you for years to come. I also miss seeing Christmas lights all around.. but I still do get to keep some fairy lights in my room at least! :") wishing you a safe, healthy, and hopeful 2021.

happy new year, Anna! fairy lights are a really good alternative. maybe i'll get some for the fireplace mantel... 🤔
DeleteWe waited until the day after New Years to take down our tree and I miss the lights too. My aunt leaves her tree up all year around in her 'parlor room' and changes the ornaments to fit the season - not sure if I aspire to that but it Does always feel festive in her home when we visit. And poor Raven, I just googled 'dog paw hot spot' and that sounds like no fun. What phone did you end up upgrading to?
ReplyDeletethe 12 pro.
Deleteall $1k+ dollars of it.
then i bought the magsafe charger, the USB-C brick, and a magsafe silicone case.
*cries in frugal*
Happy New Year! Sorry to hear that it was a rough start. Hopefully things get better. I pray that I don't have to upgrade for another 2 years because I'm just not interested. Maybe you'll enjoy the iphone photography.Sims 4! IDK why I didn't think to purchase it black friday! I long to play it, even though I won't have much time due to school!
ReplyDeleteit's such a time suck, haha. but it still feels better and more productive than constantly scrolling on my phone, ya know? it's like i'm building life skills or something.
