I've been hearing about Barre classes for a couple years now. On Friday, I had a chance to take a community class at Pink Barre in Buckhead. I squeezed in some time during my lunch hour, grabbed Tierra (seen snapping a picture in the photo above) and felt the burn for 55 minutes straight. People said it was tough. They were right. Those little three pound weights put a hurting on my biceps after doing pushups and planks for what felt like a solid 10 minutes straight.
They start with arms and work their way down, targeting every major muscle group along the way. What makes barre different from other classes, in my opinion, is the quality of the movements. Everything is done on the mat or against the ballet bar, and you only make tiny adjustments throughout each exercise, making sure to keep everything right and tight in the process. Those small movements soon start feel like sweeping grand gestures, and by the end of the whole thing all you wanna do is lie still on the mat for an hour.
Their site is here, and their Buckhead studio is off Roswell Rd - about a five minute drive from Lenox Square Mall (near Flip Burger and Tin Lizzy's).

I know exactly where this place is located one of friends also have been raving about their classes. I'm gonna have to check them out myself one of these weekends.
ReplyDeleteI had ridden past it countless times and had no clue what it was. Be prepared to feel the burn.
DeleteThat looks fun.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea what to expect going in, but it was indeed really fun.
DeleteThat's pretty cool. I've always been a little intimidated by gym/studio classes...no real clue why but. I just am. I have, however, always wanted to do some kind of like dance class...maybe zumba or beginning meringue or something and I know a lot of the Buckhead dance studios offer those every now and then.
